The Opportunity
A dynamic, founder-led strategic communications agency is looking for an experienced PR Account Manager to join its team.
This is an opportunity for a PR professional who is ready to take genuine ownership of client accounts, manage day-to-day delivery confidently and play an important role in keeping the business moving.
This is not a junior Account Manager role.
Working within a lean, agile environment means you will have meaningful client exposure, responsibility and autonomy. You will be expected to make decisions, manage timelines, build relationships, identify opportunities and keep work moving without needing to be constantly directed.
If you are someone who likes ownership, pace and being trusted to get things done, this could be an excellent opportunity.
Travel: Occasional travel for client meetings, events, and engagements
Experience: 5 -7+ years’ relevant agency PR experience
What You Will Be Responsible For
Account & Project Delivery
- Take ownership of day-to-day account activity and ensure work moves forward.
- Manage timelines, project plans and deliverables.
- Coordinate internal teams, suppliers and stakeholders to ensure everyone knows what is required and when.
- Ensure client requests are acknowledged, actioned and followed through.
- Manage approvals and keep projects on track.
- Maintain accurate media lists, trackers and account documentation.
- Ensure agreed content is distributed and activity is completed.
- Close loops and follow up until things are done.
Media Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists across relevant media.
- Confidently pitch stories and identify opportunities for clients.
- Understand what makes a story newsworthy and how to create genuine media interest.
- Differentiate between simply distributing a press release and actively driving meaningful coverage.
- Identify relevant media opportunities and proactively pursue them.
- Understand the difference between tier-one, specialist and broader media coverage.
- Follow up with journalists appropriately and professionally.
Writing & Content
- Develop clear, effective briefs for internal teams and suppliers.
- Draft strong press releases, media pitches, briefing notes, client communications and other PR materials.
- Understand structure, messaging and news value.
- Produce work that is accurate, well structured and requires appropriate rather than extensive senior-level rewriting.
- Bring your own thinking and judgement to content, using AI as a tool where appropriate rather than a substitute for strategic thinking.
Client Management
- Manage routine client communications confidently and professionally.
- Understand and interrogate briefs rather than simply accepting them at face value.
- Ask the right questions and clarify objectives, deliverables and timelines.
- Manage client expectations and communicate proactively.
- Flag potential delays or issues early.
- Build genuine, trusted relationships with clients.
- Be comfortable leading routine client status meetings and providing clear updates.
Organisation & Account Management
- Manage multiple clients, priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Maintain excellent attention to detail.
- Keep account information, timelines and deliverables organised and up to date.
- Know what is happening across your accounts without having to search through emails to find the answer.
- Escalate issues early and bring solutions rather than simply problems.
My Client Is Looking For Someone Who
- Has ideally 5 – 7+ years’ relevant agency PR experience.
- Is already operating successfully at Account Manager level, or is a particularly strong Senior Account Executive ready to step up.
- Can manage day-to-day account activity independently.
- Has strong media relationships and is confident pitching to journalists.
- Is an excellent communicator and capable PR writer.
- Has strong organisational and project management skills.
- Is comfortable managing multiple clients and competing deadlines.
- Understands the importance of news value, timing and media relevance.
- Is confident dealing directly with clients.
- Has the judgement to know when to act independently and when to escalate.
- Takes pride in the quality of their work.
The Person
You are likely to be:
- Proactive rather than reactive.
- Organised, accountable and exceptionally reliable.
- Curious and interested in what is happening in the world around you.
- Confident without needing to be the loudest person in the room.
- Comfortable asking questions and challenging assumptions when appropriate.
- Someone who sees what needs to happen next and gets on with it.
- Resilient and comfortable working at pace.
- Engaging, personable and able to build relationships with clients and media.
- Someone who takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do.
This Environment Will Suit You If You Like
- Pace: Things move quickly. Priorities can change, and you need to be comfortable switching gears without losing sight of what needs to be delivered.
- Adaptability: You may need to park one priority and pick up another when a client or business need changes.
- Ownership: If something sits with you, you own it. You follow through, communicate and make sure it gets done.
- Judgement: We value people who think before they act, understand the implications of their decisions and know when something needs to be escalated.
- Personality & Presence: PR is a people business. You do not need to be the most extroverted person in the room, but you do need to be engaging, confident, curious and memorable.
- Guts: We want people who are prepared to suggest a different approach, challenge an assumption and stand behind a well-considered recommendation.
- Commercial Awareness: You will understand that PR is a business. Time, resources and suppliers have a cost, and good account management means understanding how to use them effectively.
- Quality: High standards matter. Every piece of work should be checked, considered and fit for purpose before it reaches a client.
- What Good Looks Like: A strong Account Manager should be able to walk into a conversation with their Account Director and say: “This is what’s happening this week. These are the deadlines. This is what we’re waiting for from the client. These are the media opportunities. This is what is stuck. And this is what I need from you.”
You should know your accounts, understand your priorities and be able to anticipate what needs to happen next.
Most importantly, you make your Account Director’s job easier.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to join a lean, ambitious communications environment where your contribution will be visible and your level of responsibility will be meaningful.
You will work across interesting accounts, have genuine client exposure, build your strategic and media capabilities, and have the opportunity to make a tangible impact rather than becoming one person in a large agency machine.
If you are an experienced PR Account Manager who takes ownership, thinks ahead, knows media, writes well and gets things done, we would like to hear from you.
