Role Purpose
The Principle Consultant is a senior strategic leader responsible for driving client excellence, growing the business, and ensuring the seamless delivery of integrated strategic communications across clients and projects.
They serve as a trusted advisor to clients and a key connector within the agency, leading and developing the junior team while supporting and collaborating with senior management.
Balancing strategic insight with delivery, they play a central role in advancing both client impact and company reputation.
Core areas of responsibility
Strategic leadership & client management
- Serve as the senior point of contact for key clients, ensuring delivery excellence
through proactive counsel, clear direction, and consistently high-quality output.
- Drive the development and execution of client deliverables across the full scope: stakeholder and advisory engagements, narrative and messaging development,
communications strategy, media engagement, written content, and day-to-day account work.
- Provide final review and sign-off on all communication outputs, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with client objectives.
- Drive organic growth by identifying new service and engagement opportunities within existing client accounts.
- Share insights, trend analyses, and lessons learned to enhance internal knowledge and refine client strategies.
Team leadership & capability development
- Oversee and mentor a team of communications consultants, promoting a culture of
excellence, collaboration, and accountability across the team.
- Lead internal briefings, planning sessions, and team check-ins to ensure alignment
and momentum across client accounts.
- Manage the team to build and sustain strong relationships with top-tier media across
national, regional, and international markets.
- Support the onboarding and integration of new team members.
- Ensure consistent application of the agency’s frameworks, methodologies, and client management standards.
Relationship management
- Build and sustain relationships across clients, media, industry influencers, and sector stakeholders, serving as a senior point of contact and external representative for the agency.
- Manage relationships with freelancers, contractors, and specialist consultants, overseeing quality, deadlines, and alignment with client briefs.
Business operations & performance
- Support the management team in overseeing client budgets, contract administration, and vendor relationships to ensure commercial efficiency and accountability.
- Report on project profitability, resource allocation, and financial performance in collaboration with the operations team.
- Monitor and maintain alignment between scope, deliverables, and client expectations.
- Drive consistent implementation of internal processes, tools, and reporting frameworks across accounts.
- Flag risks, resourcing gaps, or scope changes to the management team in a timely manner.
New business development & growth
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities across priority sectors and geographies.
- With the support of the management team, actively lead new business activity – from lead generation and pitching through to proposals, credentials presentations, and thought leadership content that positions the agency as a strategic communications partner of choice.
- Represent the agency at industry forums, events, and new business pitches.
- Support marketing and brand awareness initiatives that strengthen the agency’s market position and visibility.
