Marketing Assistant

Job Description

This role requires a traditional marketer who is highly organised and can work at a fast pace, paying attention to detail while multitasking.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Matric Certificate.
  • A recognised 3-year degree or diploma in marketing, commerce, or communications is required, and a minimum of three years of marketing experience gained within a similar business environment.
  • Code EB valid driver’s license and own transport is required.

Duties

  • Work collaboratively with the marketing team, cross-divisionally, and cross-departmentally to ensure an outstanding marketing effort based on sound strategic planning and the achievement of business imperatives.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Executive, Brand Manager, and Product Manager on marketing strategies and their outcomes in related areas for the company and its various brands.
  • Support the following.
    • Development and implementation of brand strategies.
    • Development and implementation of advertising strategies that place the company’s brand (stable) in a competitive position in the market in line with business imperatives and strategic marketing objectives.
  • Develop written and verbal (presented) briefs to internal creative, and digital teams per campaign/s
  • Create and develop media planning to ensure cost efficiencies in reaching the defined targets.
  • Analysis and collation of market information.
  • Support the marketing team, (communicating with suppliers and other service providers) in the production and implementation of marketing activities.
  • Analyse market information to ensure that all communication achieves the desired brand positioning objectives.
  • Develop and distribute (within the marketing structures) advertising bulletins to ensure that up-to-date information on relevant market developments is communicated to branches.
  • Support the development, implementation, and execution of a digital marketing strategy for all brands, which helps build customer loyalty to achieve sales objectives.
  • Help, initiate, develop, and implement promotions and experiential marketing initiatives that positively influence the company’s brand image and build awareness.
  • Collate effective and accurate management of brand budgets monthly together with financial controlling.
  • Support Private Label Product Marketing and Sales.

 

MARKETING/ BRAND PLANS:

  • Input into the marketing strategy, within your areas of influence.
  • Support the creation and delivery of a detailed marketing plan for the company and the company’s Private Label and any other brands in their stable. This includes all elements of the marketing mix within the department’s control.
  • Contributing to the implementation and delivery of marketing strategies.
  • Developing sales out reports that measure relevant marketing activity.

 

CONTENT DEVELOPMENT:

  • Understanding the role of content within your area of responsibility and helping to design and build solutions to support business objectives.
  • Working cross-functionally in the business to identify which areas of the business we need to support with marketing or promotional activity.
  • Helping in developing, implementing, and managing compelling and well-organised content based on a thorough understanding of business objectives, user needs and industry best practices. Specifically aimed at content that helps create demand for our products and services.
  • For print and all digital media (intranet, website, social media platforms, mailshots, email shots, etc).
  • Supporting the development of distribution plans (in conjunction with the Digital Manager) for positioning content across omnichannel to drive desired business results.
  • Assist the Digital team in the creation of shareable content appropriate for specific networks in line with the social media strategy (Content Calendars).
  • Planning and preparing work to be accomplished by gathering information and materials, studying information and materials, and illustrating concepts by developing excellent work briefs for the design team.

 

EVENTS/ACTIVATIONS/LAUNCHES:

  • Support the marketing team in the development, execution, budgeting, etc, and any relevant activation required in this area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Ideally at least three years of proven experience in the field of marketing communications within one or more of the following: Brand management, brand communications, promotions, advertising.
  • Knowledge of the development of corporate and product brand positioning and the relevant marketing strategies/ communications/ executions to support such.
  • The ability to support the implementation of strategies and campaigns across omni-channels.
  • The ability to support the creation of concepts and campaigns and work with the marketing leads and design team to take jobs from brief to concept to set-up to repro/production and print.
  • This requires strong admin skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate conceptual skills and ability to take tasks from brief to development and creation to creative design application and then to the required outcome in the required channel.
  • Knowledge of digital and print production processes, including design, layout, printing, and digital publications.
  • Knowledge of photographic and video shoots.
  • Knowledge and proven experience in brand or product launches.
  • Planning, budgeting, and execution skills are essential.
  • Creative and commercial experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in eventing. Planning, organising, executing, reviewing, and budgeting.
  • Packages: Microsoft. Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and its applications.
  • B2B marketing experience.

 

SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills and command of the English language.
  • Must be able to develop marketing materials from concept to end result.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy and able to do such in a pressurised and deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to plan, organise and coordinate a wide variety of jobs at the same time.
  • An eye for detail and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to project manage efficiently and stick to timelines.
  • Able to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Ability to follow and contribute to the development of strategic marketing and brand plans.
  • Knowledge of media strategy including media buying and placement.
  • Ability to work with multiple supplier business relationships.
  • Knowledge of the digital and social media environment.
  • Ability to interact internally with senior management and Executives.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong people-orientation and a team player.
  • Customer focus – internal and external customers.

  • Ability to take instruction and perform accordingly by implementing tasks in order to integrate into a high-performance team.
  • Ability to manage brand budgets and an understanding of financial principles – high attention to detail.

  • Advanced computer literacy, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and MS Excel.

ADVANTAGEOUS

  • Knowledge of food and the ability to cook, food design, food photography, food service, retail services, activations, launches, events, written and verbal communications, and sales experience.
  • Advertising agency experience.

About the Agency

The agency is looking for a marketing assistant with at least 3 years of experience in brand marketing, communication or advertising. They should be well organized, creative and have excellent communication skills. Experience in the food industry is a plus. The agency works with multiple brands and develops marketing campaigns across various channels including traditional and digital media.
