Graphic Designer (Hybrid)

Job Description

My client is seeking a top-performing graphic designer to join their in-house marketing department. In this role, they need someone who is committed to perfection in their design, no matter the size of the task. It requires a creative thinker who will play a vital role in the Marketing team’s overall success, so working well with others is essential. Paying acute attention to briefs, ensuring all assets are on-brand and look the part, is of paramount importance. Solid experience in Print is essential.

Duties

Develop creative designs with clear, enticing copy for both digital and print platforms, including but not limited to:

  • Social media graphics, infographics, and paid ad creatives
  • Marketing collateral (brochures, posters, flyers, banners, signage, OOH);
  • Website visuals, landing pages, and email templates;
  • Presentations, proposals, and reports;
  • Internal communications and staff engagement materials.
  • Support the marketing team in executing integrated campaigns with visually impactful design elements.
  • Ensure all creative assets are aligned with the company’s corporate identity, tone, and brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and management Teams on Branding CI design, maintenance, and enhancements.
  • Assist in the conceptualisation and execution of new branding projects and campaigns.
  • Prepare design files for production and liaise with printers, suppliers, and other external partners where necessary to ensure deadlines are met, and material is produced to the highest quality.
  • Keep up to date with design trends, tools, and best practices to bring fresh and innovative ideas to the team.
  • Collaborate closely with the marketing team, project management team, copywriters, and senior designers to deliver work on time and to specification.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Implement an effective and optimised graphic design process.
  • Work with the Marketing manager to source high-quality content for print and online publications.
  • Reviewing final layouts with management and suggesting improvements if required.
  • Participate and contribute in marketing-related brainstorming sessions.
  • Assist the design and digital teams with other day-to-day tasks.
  • Compile weekly and monthly activity reports.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of corporate identity and branding concepts.
  • Strong attention to detail, layout, composition, and typography.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to translate briefs into compelling visuals.
  • Ability to take direction and feedback, while also bringing original ideas to the table.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication (English reading, writing, verbal) and collaboration skills, being able to work effectively within a team environment.
  • A passion for creativity, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and remain focused in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Familiarity and detailed understanding of different demographic markets in South Africa.
  • Experience with Financial Services Products and/or Political organisations would be advantageous.

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, incl. Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign (essential). After Effects/Premiere Pro or similar would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Figma, or other collaborative design tools (Advantageous).
  • Knowledge of photo-editing, pre-press, and print production processes.
  • Understanding of digital marketing design principles (social media creative formats, responsive design, UX/UI basics, basic HTML/CSS) (Advantageous).
  • Motion graphics or video editing experience (Advantageous).
  • Exceptional grammar and spelling, incl. proofreading (English).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field.
  • 2–5 years’ experience in a design role (agency experience a plus).
  • Proficient with Apple Mac (macOS).
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office for Mac OS.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing creative design work across print and digital mediums.
  • Adobe After Effects, Canva, Figma, basic HTML/CSS, and animation/video editing skills are advantageous.
